Postcard inspired by Stephen King’s fictional Shawshank State Prison in Maine. Though the location is most featured as the setting for King’s novella Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, it is also mentioned in many of King’s other works, including: short story “The Fifth Quarter”, Apt Pupil and The Body (both novellas published in Different Seasons along with Rita Hayworth…), IT, short story “The Sun Dog”, Needful Things, Blaze, Under the Dome, A Good Marriage, 11/22/63. It is also one of the primary settings in the first season of the Hulu series Castle Rock.

But the prison is most well-known as the primary setting for the beloved film The Shawshank Redemption, starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman.

The postcard features several images, many taken at the historic Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio, where the movie was filmed. The images inside the letters include a two-bunk cell, a row of cells viewed from the outside, the warden’s office and desk, main prison gates, a copy of The Holy Bible (given to every prisoner), a prison laundry room washing machine, the stairs leading to the administration offices, all book-ended by views looking up at the inside of the prison’s imposing walls. The letters are set against a backdrop depicting the impressive breadth of the front of the prison itself. Near the bottom, the phrase “Salvation Lies Within” is featured in bright text…a phrase which is of great importance in the film, and stands as a suitable motto for the image the prison would present to the postcard-buying public.

This would make for a great addition to any King collection or a thoughtful gift for a King fan in your life.

All of inktree’s postcards are made with high-resolution image files printed on 100-lb cover cardstock. After printing, both sides of the postcard are sealed with a lightweight protective sealant that makes the postcards moisture and UV resistant, yet still easy to write on. While it’s not recommended you go swimming with them or leave them out in the desert sun, they will definitely hold up to a trip through the mail in humid weather or years spent in a picture frame hanging in a sunny room.
