Inspired by Stephen King’s fictional Overlook Hotel as it is portrayed in the 1980 film by Stanley Kubrick. The hotel, isolated in the Colorado Rockies, is the primary setting of the book The Shining. It is also mentioned in Misery and the television miniseries Castle Rock, and is a place of importance in Doctor Sleep, sequel to The Shining.
This item is designed with an “in-universe” style, meaning that it looks like something a person could really buy at the Overlook Hotel. As such, it is completely film-accurate, from the exterior depiction matching Timberline Lodge in Oregon (used for exterior shots of Kubrick’s movie) right down to the Native American window designs, red elevators, room 237 bathroom, and that oh-so-famous carpet.
Images in the letters include: hedge maze entrance, Native American window pattern, bedroom door with famous carpet, bathroom of room 237, the hotel lobby, the red “blood elevators”, the Colorado Lounge where Jack Nicholson worked on his novel, and a final shot overlooking the hedge maze.
This would be a great addition to any horror collection, whether your own or as a gift to a fellow human you enjoy.
All of inktree’s postcards are made with high-resolution image files printed on 100-lb cover cardstock. After printing, both sides of the postcard are sealed with a lightweight protective sealant that makes the postcards moisture and UV resistant, yet still easy to write on. While it’s not recommended you go swimming with them or leave them out in the desert sun, they will definitely hold up to a trip through the mail in humid weather or years spent in a picture frame hanging in a sunny room.
